Roberto Nascimento
( he / him )
Born in Brazil, Roberto comes from a mixed background of cultures, including Italian, Spanish and indigenous Brazilian. After living in Aotearoa, New Zealand for 20 years, he now resides in Sydney, Australia.
His approach to work is the same as he lives his life: fearless, passionate and motivated. Being an actor has ignited the passion for working with actors (professional or non professional) and empowering them to give strong, nuanced and naturalistic performances. Roberto is also a writer, creative producer, editor and showrunner.
Representation is something extremely important to him - as a queer latinx man, LGBTQIA+ stories are very close to his heart. He created and directed 3 seasons of SUI GENERIS, an anthology LGBTQIA+ series about love in all its multifaceted shapes and forms. It won 15 international awards including Best Director, Best LGBTQIA+ Series and Best Representation of LGBT Communities. The third season was commissioned by OUTtv in Canada. In 2023 Roberto was nominated for a NZTV Award as Best Director for his work on that project.
He is currently working on his first feature film, based on an award winning short called BOYFRIEND (nominated for a prestigious IRIS Prize Award in the UK, for LGBTQIA+ short films), developing a new series called LIFE MODEL, developing a short series called BREADCRUMBS and pursuing work directing TV series and adverts. Roberto is passionate about collaborating on new projects and his aim is to always bring an open mind, hard work and a creative eye to any project he is the creative leader of.
